10 Tips on feeling better about yourself

Everyone wants to feel better about themselves, right? I believe there’s always room for improvement, and if you think you don’t need improvement, you’re lying .

Simple things can make us feel good about ourselves, and simple things can make us feel very bad about ourselves too. The tips I am about to share with you, helped me personally, and I hope it helps for you, too.

1. CUT DOWN ON THE BOOZE!

Seems simple, doesn’t it? It’s not as easy as it may sound. In our society today, everything revolves around alcohol. Being social usually means drinking. Having a bottle of wine at dinner with friends, having cocktails with your girlfriends on a Friday, drinking endless glasses of champagne at weddings etc…. I’m not here to say “STOP DRINKING”! Anyone that knows me, knows I love wine, and sometimes a bit too much (I’m working on that). Hence the reason this is my first tip…. Alcohol makes you feel SHIT! It’s all fun and games till the next morning. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I don’t do very well on a hangover. I’m unproductive, I am sleepy, and I eat garbage. That’s definitely not the life I want to live anymore (it was GREAT in my early 20’s) but it sucks now. So my tip is to try and stick to two glasses of wine a night (or whatever it is you prefer to drink) and have glasses of water in between. You will thank me in the morning….

2. EAT BETTER!

So obvious, yet so many people JUST DON’T GET IT!! Personally, for me this is a no brainer. I eat heathy 99% of the time, and that 1% of the time that I don’t eat healthy, I feel like rubbish. If you smash down McDonalds (or any fast food, high sodium, saturated fats, and processed foods for that matter) majority of the time, you will feel like crap. What works best for me, is when I stick to a plant based diet, and eat loads of fresh veggies and fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts, seeds and DRINK LOADS OF WATER. I try to stick to fruits in the morning, as it bloats me when combining with other foods (like having fruit after a main meal) I have a big salad with whole grains (maybe even beans too) for lunch, and at night time I will have either a nice veggie curry with chickpeas and brown rice, wholegrain pasta with veg like spinach, aubergines, tomatoes and zucchini (make sure the sauce you use for pasta is low in sodium) . 3. GET MOVING

I am by no means an athlete (or even fit for that matter). I am that awkward person that does not know how to do sport in teams, I can’t dance, I look like an idiot in gym classes…. But I DO KNOW the importance of exercise, and therefor, I stick to looking awkward in private, or at least, being active on my own. I try to walk everyday (especially now that I am a new mom- it’s important to get out, and to get moving) or I do Yoga at home. Do whatever makes you feel good, even if it’s just for 20 mins a day.

4. POSITIVE THOUGHTS

This one I struggle with a lot. But, if you have mastered the power of thinking positive, your whole life will change. Try to always think about the good things in your life, and stop worrying about the things you have absolutely no control over. If you do however have control over things you are stressed out about, follow your gut, and make that change. The best advice I have for you, is to start living in the present, and stop dwelling on the past, and stressing about the future.

5. BE FRIENDS WITH PEOPLE WHO MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD

If you are hanging out with people who are just consumed with negativity and problems, chances are, you will probably start feeling exactly the same. Be friends with positive people, people who can lift you up when you are down, people who are not self centred, people who can listen and ask you about your life, people that share the same interests and hobbies as you. This will make a HUGE difference in your life.

6. SPOIL YOURSELF EVERY NOW AND THEN

It’s important to spoil yourself. Some people find it easier than others. I find it very hard to spoil myself, and do it very seldom. But, once I do something for myself (even if it’s just doing my nails, or getting a facial) I feel like a million bucks! Doing something once in a while wont break the bank! So go out and get that pair of shoes you have been eyeing!

7. GIVE, WITHOUT EXPECTING TO RECEIVE

To me, there’s no better feeling than seeing the look on someones face when they receive a gift from me. It can be so small, but it warms my heart so much. It does not have to be a gift, it can just be an act of kindness or simply lending someone a helping hand.

8. HAVE A HOBBY

You should have something that makes you excited everyday, and give you drive to do better. Wether it’s something creative, a sport, or even your career.

9. TRAVEL

Traveling is a huge part of my life, and without it life would be so boring. It’s good to get away every now and then, and escape day to day life (even if it’s just a weekend break away.) It’s good to look forward to a trip, and once you get back, you will be clear minded refreshed.

10. STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS

I cannot stress this enough- stop comparing your life, your body, your belongings, your house, your car (JUST EVERYTHING!!) to other people. Every person has their flaws and problems to deal with . No ones lives are as picture perfect as it might seem on social media. Remember, no one wants you to see their flaws. No one will post an insta-story of them fighting with their partner, no girl will post her cellulite ass, or unshaved legs. It’s not worth it to always compare yourself to others, because you will essentially NEVER be happy if you do that. Focus on yourself, LOVE YOURSELF, and focus on your own ambitions and dreams. You wont ever get ahead in life if you live through someone else’s life, instead of your own.
