My Vegan shopping list

Many people ask me if I only eat vegetables and fruit as a vegan, and the simple answer is, HELL NO! As a vegan, you can experiment with so many different foods and ingredients. I decided to compile a list of different foods I stock up on when going grocery shopping. I will do a blog post next week on how to meal prep these ingredients, so you can stay on track- and enjoy being plant-based!

 

GRAINS/ BEANS/ LEGUMES

  • Barley
  • Farro
  • Quinoa ( I usually get red and tricolor)
  • Brown rice
  • Wild rice
  • Red rice
  • Black rice
  • Buckwheat
  • Bulgar wheat
  • Green lentils
  • Brown lentils (dry or canned)
  • Chickpeas (dry or canned)
  • Kidney beans (dry or canned)
  • Split peas
  • Yellow split peas

PASTA/ NOODLES

  • Wholegrain pasta (Misura brand)
  • Corn pasta
  • Spelt pasta
  • Quinoa pasta
  • Udon noodles
  • Rice noodles (flat and vermicelli)
  • Soba noodles

SOY PRODUCTS

  • Firm tofu (I am personally not a fan of Silken tofu)
  • Soy milk for hot beverages (Soy milk for professionals of Alpro brand is best)
  • Soy yoghurt for breakfast and smoothies (Alpro brand)

OILS

  • Organic cold pressed coconut oil for raw treats
  • Extra virgin cold pressed olive oil for cooking
  • Sesame oil for stir-fries
  • Vegan spread (Pure dairy free brand)

ANIMAL PRODUCT ALTERNATIVES

  • Vegan sausages (Fry’s brand)
  • Vegan burger patties (Cashew and parsnip burgers from Good life brand)
  • Mince (Quorn brand)
  • Vegan cheese (Gouda from Sheese brand and Feta style from Green Vie brand)
  • Nutritional yeast (for adding a cheesy nutty taste to food, or to use as a substitute for parmesan when making pesto)

DRIED

  • Apricots
  • Raisins
  • Currants
  • Goji berries
  • Figs
  • Prunes
  • Apple chips
  • Coconut Shavings
  • Desiccated coconut
  • Oats

BREADS/ WRAPS/ CRACKERS

  • Sourdough bread
  • 100% Rye bread

  • Coconut yoghurt
  • Dates (perfect for making smoothies sweeter, or to just snack on when you have a sweet tooth)
  • Coconut and Almond milk (Alpro brand) for smoothies and nice cream

GOOD FATS

  • Peanut butter (Whole Earth brand)
  • Tahini
  • Avocado (Hass)
  • Coconut milk for curries and Asian food (I buy the Real Thai 750ml box)
  • Olives (Kalamata and Spanish green olives is my favourite)

  • Smoked paprika (adds great flavour to Tofu)
